B2. The teacher assesses student learning in multiple ways in order to monitor student learning, assist students in understanding their progress, and report student progress.

The most common ways I assessed student learning in order to monitor student learning, assist students in understanding their progress and report student progress was through daily Bell Ringers, weekly projects, and quizzes. In the Bell Ringers, I would ask students a question to get them moving in the morning; some examples are listed below:

  • Do you believe hope is a good thing or a bad thing? Why?

  • What is your Zodiac sign?

  • What are possible hardships students like yourself have gone through or are currently going through?

In weekly projects, I would assess students’ work mainly based on the content inside their projects. The guidelines would simply guide students in giving me their best work and not trick them into doing poorly and losing points. I also gave students the opportunity to submit their projects in different formats including short story, video-recorded presentation, and poems. My goal was to help students not hurt them; below are screenshots of the guidelines from the projects I created for the students:

In the quizzes I created, I used Quizizz or Kahoot! for the most part, and they were created for reviewing stories and videos I taught in class beforehand. Below are screenshots from the quizzes I created in order to help students digest information:

Lastly, I held a game of Pictionary through Google Jamboard and had students take turns drawing words from the stories they read in class. Most of the students participated, and I could tell they enjoyed themselves because it was something new we experienced together.
